The basics

Getting Started With IPTV

What is IPTV?

IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television. It delivers live TV channels and on-demand movies and series over your internet connection instead of cable, satellite or an antenna. You watch through a player app on a smart TV, streaming stick, phone, tablet or computer. With IPTV Nova, your subscription gives you login details for a player app; from there you get live channels, an on-screen guide and a library of movies and series.

What does IPTV stand for?

Internet Protocol Television. The “internet protocol” part describes how the video travels: each stream is broken into small data packets, sent over your connection and reassembled by your player app in real time. That is why IPTV needs no dish, no coax cable and no technician visit — and why picture quality depends on your internet rather than the weather.

How does IPTV work in Canada?

You subscribe to a provider such as IPTV Nova and receive your login details by email. You enter them into a player app on your TV or device and start watching. The provider hosts the streams, your credentials unlock access, and the app pulls the channels over your home internet and shows them with a channel guide.

How do I get IPTV in Canada?

Pick a plan on our pricing page, choose how many devices you want to watch on at the same time, and complete checkout. Once your order is confirmed we email your activation details to the address you used at checkout, together with setup instructions for your device.

Does IPTV work anywhere in Canada?

Yes. IPTV runs over the internet rather than dedicated cable lines, so your postal code does not matter the way it does with traditional TV. From a downtown condo to a rural property, if your connection sustains about 25 Mbps, HD streams run smoothly. It works equally well over fibre, cable internet, DSL or fixed wireless as long as speeds hold steady.

What is the difference between IPTV and regular streaming apps?

Regular streaming apps are built around an on-demand catalogue, with little or no live TV, and each app carries only its own content. IPTV behaves more like a cable box: live channels with an on-screen guide, plus an on-demand library, all in one subscription. Many households use IPTV Nova to replace several stacked streaming bills.
Cable & satellite

IPTV vs Cable and Satellite

Is IPTV cheaper than cable in Canada?

Usually by a wide margin. Cable packages in Canada often cost well over $100 per month once promotions end. IPTV Nova starts at $19 CAD for one month and $79 CAD for a full year on one device — with no activation fee, no rental box and no contract.

IPTV vs satellite: which is better?

For most Canadian households IPTV is the simpler choice. Satellite needs a dish, professional installation and clear sky access, and it can drop out in heavy snow or rain. IPTV runs over the internet you already have, with no hardware to install. Satellite still makes sense where home internet is very weak.

Why is IPTV so much cheaper than cable?

IPTV skips the costs that inflate cable bills: no coaxial networks to maintain, no rental receivers, no installation crews and no forced bundles. Streams travel over the internet you already pay for, so pricing can stay low.

Is IPTV worth it if I barely watch TV?

Often, yes. A 1-month plan at $19 CAD has no contract, so light viewers can subscribe around big sports events or the holidays and simply let it lapse afterwards. Since plans never auto-renew, there is nothing to cancel.

What should I check before switching from cable?

Four things: your internet speed (25 Mbps for HD, 50 Mbps for 4K), any data cap on your internet plan, your cable contract’s cancellation terms, and whether the channels you actually watch are available. Our free trial lets you check the last one before you cancel anything.

What are the drawbacks of IPTV?

IPTV depends entirely on your internet quality — if your connection drops or slows, so does your TV. There is no local PVR box for recording, and reliability varies a lot between providers. We recommend testing with a free trial on the screens you actually use, ideally during a busy evening.
Trial & plans

Free Trial, Plans and Payment

Can I get a free trial of IPTV Nova?

Yes. Request a free trial from our Free Trial page and tell us which device you will be watching on. We email your trial login with setup instructions so you can test live TV, movies and series on your own device before you buy. No payment details are needed. Trials are limited to one per customer and provided subject to availability.

How much does IPTV Nova cost?

Single-device pricing is $19 CAD for 1 month, $29 for 3 months, $49 for 6 months and $79 for 12 months. Plans are also available for 2, 3, 4 or 5 devices watching at the same time — pick the device count on the pricing page and prices update automatically. All prices are in Canadian dollars.

Is there a contract or cancellation fee?

No. Every plan is prepaid for its term of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. Nothing renews automatically, there is no cancellation fee and no hidden charges. When your plan ends, you decide whether to order again.

How do I pay?

You pay online at checkout on iptvnova.ca. Available payment methods are shown on the checkout page. If you have a question about a payment option, contact us before ordering and we will help.

How long does activation take after payment?

Once your order is confirmed, we email your activation details to the address you used at checkout — usually shortly after payment. If you do not see the email, check your spam, junk and promotions folders, then contact us with your order number.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Refund eligibility is explained on our Refund & Cancellation Policy page. In short: if you experience a technical problem that our support team cannot resolve, you may be eligible for a refund, and requests should be made promptly after purchase. Please read the policy before buying so you know what to expect.
Account & renewal

Account, Renewal and Billing

How do I renew my subscription?

Go to the pricing page, choose your plan length and device count, and place a new order. Your existing login stays the same and the new term is added once payment is confirmed, so nothing changes on your devices.

Can I upgrade my plan or add more devices later?

Yes. The simplest way is to pick a bigger device plan at your next renewal. If you want to add devices mid-term, contact us with your order number and we will explain the options.

What happens when my subscription expires?

Your access simply pauses. We never charge you automatically and there is no surprise billing. Renew whenever you like and service resumes with the same login.

I lost my login details. What do I do?

Search your inbox for the activation email first — it was sent to the address you used at checkout. If you cannot find it, contact us from that same email with your order number and we will resend your details.

How do I cancel my subscription?

There is no contract, so cancelling means simply not renewing. Nothing to call, nothing to return. Your plan ends on its own at the end of the term.

Can I change the email on my account?

Yes. Contact us from the email you used at checkout, tell us the new address, and we will update it so your activation and renewal emails reach the right inbox.
Channels & content

Channels and Content

What do I get with an IPTV Nova subscription?

Live TV channels from Canada and around the world — sports, news, entertainment, kids and more — plus an on-demand library of movies and series, in HD and 4K where available. Every plan includes the same content; the only difference between plans is the length and the number of devices.

Are there international and French-language channels?

Yes. The lineup includes French-language channels for Quebec and francophone households as well as international channels in many languages. The easiest way to confirm the channels that matter to you is to request a free trial and check on your own device.

What is an EPG?

An EPG (electronic program guide) is the on-screen TV guide inside your player app — a scrollable grid of channels, show titles and air times. Some channels do not provide complete guide data, and on first setup the guide can take a few minutes to download and sync.

Do you have movies and shows on demand?

Yes. Alongside live TV, your subscription includes an on-demand library of movies and series that you browse by genre or search by title, much like the streaming apps you already know.

Can I watch in 4K?

Yes, where the source broadcasts in 4K; most other channels stream in full HD. To actually see 4K you need a 4K-capable TV or device and an internet connection of about 50 Mbps. For HD, 25 Mbps is enough.

How do I get more channels?

There is nothing extra to buy — every plan includes the full channel lineup from day one. If a category seems missing, it is usually there under a different group name; use the search in your player app, or ask us and we will point you to it.
Live sports

Live Sports

Can I watch live sports with IPTV Nova?

Yes. Live sports channels from Canada, the US, Europe and beyond are included — hockey, soccer, football, basketball, combat sports and motorsport. The on-screen guide shows what is on and when.

Does it handle game nights without buffering?

Busy evenings are the real test of any IPTV service. On your side, a wired connection and at least 25 Mbps for HD (50 Mbps for 4K) keep streams smooth. If you ever see buffering during a big game, switching player apps or restarting your router usually clears it.

Can I watch sports in 4K?

When a 4K feed exists at the source, it is carried at no extra charge on any plan. Not every event is produced in 4K, so availability varies by broadcast. A 50 Mbps connection handles 4K comfortably.

Do I get sports channels from other countries?

Yes. International sports channels are part of the lineup, which means overseas soccer, cricket, rugby and combat sports that regular Canadian cable rarely carries, often with native commentary.
Devices & setup

Devices and Setup

What devices can I use?

Amazon Fire TV Stick and Fire TV, Android TV boxes, Android phones and tablets, Apple TV, iPhone and iPad, Samsung and LG smart TVs, Formuler and other set-top boxes, and Windows or Mac computers. Our installation guide has step-by-step instructions for each one.

Do I need a box for IPTV?

No. A player app on a smart TV, streaming stick, phone, tablet or computer is enough. Dedicated IPTV boxes are optional — they can add a nicer remote and a set-top feel, but they are a convenience, not a requirement.

How do I set up IPTV step by step?

Install a player app on your device, choose the login option that asks for a server URL, username and password, and enter the three details exactly as they appear in your welcome email. Give the app a minute to load the channel list and guide. Our installation guide walks through every device with illustrated steps.

Can I use one subscription on multiple devices?

Yes, with the right plan. You can install the app on every TV, phone and tablet you own; the plan only controls how many of them can stream at the same time. Plans are available for 1 to 5 simultaneous devices.

What internet speed do I need?

We recommend a minimum of 25 Mbps for smooth HD viewing and 50 Mbps for 4K or households streaming on several screens at once. Stability matters as much as speed — a wired connection to your main TV beats Wi-Fi every time.

Can I install IPTV on an Amazon Fire TV Stick?

Yes, and it is one of the most popular ways to watch. Install a player app such as OTT Navigator, TiviMate or iMPlayer using the Downloader app, then sign in with your IPTV Nova details. The Firestick section of our installation guide shows every step with the exact download codes.

Is a Fire TV Stick good enough for IPTV?

Yes. Recent models handle HD streams without issues and the 4K models play 4K channels comfortably. Only very old, low-memory sticks may be slow to browse a large channel list — restarting the stick and clearing the app cache usually helps.
Apps

Apps and Advanced Setup

Which player app should I use?

Any player that supports Xtream Codes logins works with IPTV Nova. We recommend OTT Navigator (free), TiviMate or iMPlayer on Fire TV and Android; see the installation guide for the best option on each device. If one app feels clunky, switch to another — your subscription works in all of them.

Do you provide the app with the subscription?

No. Your purchase includes the IPTV Nova subscription only; the player app is made by another company. Most recommended apps are free, and some offer a paid premium version. Think of the subscription as the fuel and the app as the car.

My app says “expired” or asks me to pay. Is my subscription over?

Almost certainly not. That message comes from the app, not from your subscription. Some apps ask for a one-time payment after their free period — that money goes to the app developer, not to IPTV Nova. Your subscription stays active for the full term you paid for; install another supported app and log in with the same details.

Can I use IPTV on a smart TV without a box or stick?

Yes. Open your TV’s app store, install a player app, and sign in with your IPTV Nova login — the whole setup happens on the TV itself. Most smart TVs from the last five to seven years support this; see the Smart TV section of our guide.

Can I use IPTV on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Install a player app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device and sign in. Streaming uses roughly 3–8 GB per hour, so stick to Wi-Fi unless you have a generous data plan. If someone watches the TV at home while you watch on your phone, you need a 2-device or larger plan.

Does my subscription work when I travel outside Canada?

In most cases, yes — it streams over any solid internet connection. The service is optimised for viewers in Canada, so performance abroad can vary and is not guaranteed. Aim for at least 25 Mbps wherever you are.
Quality & data

Quality, Data and Performance

Is IPTV really 4K quality?

A stream can only be as sharp as its source. Claims that “everything” is in 4K are marketing, not broadcasting. IPTV Nova passes true 4K through where it exists and delivers full HD everywhere else. To see the difference you need a 4K-capable device and roughly 50 Mbps.

How much data does IPTV use?

Roughly 3 GB per hour in HD and up to 8 GB per hour in 4K. On unlimited home internet this is a non-issue; on a capped plan, heavy 4K viewing adds up quickly, so choose HD streams and check your usage after the first week.

Can I record shows or watch ones I missed?

IPTV Nova is not a PVR and does not save recordings to a hard drive. Many player apps offer catch-up or replay on channels that support it, and the on-demand library usually has the movies and series you want without recording anything.

Can several people watch different channels at once?

Yes, if your plan is sized for your household. Each device on your plan is an independent stream, so a 3-device plan lets three people watch three different channels at the same time. Count peak-hour viewers, not total devices.

Does IPTV work on slow internet?

Within limits. A stable 10–15 Mbps connection handles one HD stream, but you will not get reliable 4K and two simultaneous streams will struggle. Stability matters more than raw speed — a wired 15 Mbps connection often beats shaky Wi-Fi at 50 Mbps.
Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

Why is my IPTV not working?

Most problems come down to three things: your internet connection, your login details or the app. Confirm another app streams fine on the same device, restart your modem, router and streaming device, then sign out and re-enter your username and password exactly as written in your welcome email. Our troubleshooting page covers the rest.

How do I fix buffering or freezing?

Run a speed test on the device you watch on — you want 25 Mbps for HD and 50 Mbps for 4K. Pause downloads on other devices, move the streaming device closer to the router or use an ethernet cable, and restart the router. If one channel buffers while others play fine, that single source is busy; try again shortly.

Is IPTV Nova down?

Full outages are rare; the cause is usually local. Try a different channel, then a second device such as your phone. If streams play on mobile data but not at home, your router or internet provider is the issue. If nothing plays anywhere, contact us and we will check right away.

How do I reset or reinstall my app?

In your device settings go to Apps, select your player, and choose Clear Cache (harmless) and, if needed, Clear Data (signs you out). If the app still misbehaves, uninstall it, restart the device, install it again and re-enter your login details. Your subscription is not affected.

Why does my channel guide not match what is playing?

Your app has probably cached outdated guide data. Open the player settings and look for Update EPG, Reload Guide or Refresh, and run it manually. Also check that your device’s time zone is set correctly — a wrong zone shifts every listing by hours.

Why is the audio out of sync with the video?

Exit the channel and reopen it first. If the drift returns, open your player’s settings and switch the decoder between hardware and software — some devices handle certain audio formats poorly in one mode. Most apps also have an audio delay slider you can fine-tune.

How do I turn on subtitles?

Subtitles are controlled by your player app, not by IPTV Nova. While a stream is playing, open the player’s on-screen menu and look for subtitles, captions or CC. Not every channel carries a subtitle track, so captions work on some channels and not others.

Why does my app keep crashing?

Update the player app to the latest version (or reinstall it), clear its cache, and make sure the device has free storage. A cache full of old guide data and a device low on space are the two most common causes of crash loops.

Is Amazon Fire TV blocking IPTV?

Fire TV devices do not block IPTV player apps. Newer models are tightening how sideloaded apps install, which mainly affects very old or unofficial apps. The players we recommend install normally through Downloader; the newest Vega OS models are the exception, and our installation guide explains that case.
